Working with fire as a constructive, creative tool - glass and metals are flameworked, shaped, welded and wired with found objects and materials into sculptural artforms to wear and/or display. Objects taken from their normal context and used for their forms are given new identities and viewed in a different way. I am a full time studio artist from the Eastern Shore of Md., who works with torch and kiln-worked glass and metals. Silver, copper, steel, aluminum, brass, gold, and scrap metals are combined with melted formed glass to create sculpture for the home and garden as well as one of a kind wearable art. With a BFA in Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art in painting and life drawing, and classes in glass beadmaking at Touchstone Center for the Arts in Pa.,I am self-taught in metal work and jewelry, with a lot of experimentation. I teach art jewelry, glass beadmaking, and glass fusing classes privately and through art centers. My work is in private collections in the United States, England, Japan, and Austalia. I enjoy showing students how to play with fire and create beautiful things. My art can be seen in galleries and exhibits throughout the mid-shore region. A member of the Friday Morning Artists, Talbot County Visual Art Center, Mid-Atlantic Smiths Associate, Rehobeth Art League and the Artist's - Blacksmith's Association of North America. I exhibit and am a studio artist at Gallery 26, 26 W. Dover Street, Easton, MD. |
