Karen started creating art early in elementary school by making Christmas Cards and selling them to her family. In Junior High School it was determined that Karen was qualified for the Art Curriculum Course at Eastern High School in Baltimore where she was exposed to intense courses in painting, sculpture, theatre arts, industrial design, architecture, and print illustration. After leaving High School with an art award Karen entered the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore with a full scholarship where she majored in photography and painting. Returning to MICA after raising a family, Karen took continuing studies with a thorough review of Art History and six years of study in photography and painting. During this time, Karen's work was donated for fund raising projects such as the Maryland Food Bank and the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Moving to the Eastern Shore In 2005, Karen stared showing her work at various galleries and after a period of time settled in Cambridge where she worked and showed her art at the 447 Gallery. Presently her work can be found at Gallery 26 in Easton, Maryland where she is represented by Jen Wagner. The work on view consists of watercolors of current events and people. Newer pieces are combination layers of paintings and photography worked together. |
